Bonaire
Bonaire is known as "the divers paradise". The island is just 50 miles of the coast of South America, below the hurricane belt. This area is covered by constant easterly trade winds. As such the east coast of Bonaire is subject to rough surf pounding on the rocky shore. However the west coast is protected by the island it self, and in these calm waters are found some of the best diving in the Caribbean.
Island inhabitance soon learned to appreciate the natural wonder, and quickly established a marine park to protect it. Traveling here, a diver can simply rent a truck and drive down the west coast looking for yellow signs pointing the way to the dive sites. Entry are generally from shore with a short swim out to the reef.
The coral is spectacular, and the fish life is amazing.
